What Are the Health Benefits of the Paleo Diet?

The Paleo diet is not a new diet. In fact, you could probably say with certainty that it is mankind’s oldest diet. The premise goes like this; Take almost everything you normally eat in today’s society and throw it out. Now fill your refrigerator with only meats, vegetables and fruits. That’s the Paleo diet in a nutshell and believe it or not, it actually works very well as far as losing weight.

In fact, I would wager that when it comes to weight loss, there is actually no other diet that can compare. So what are some of the benefits of the Paleo diet? From a personal perspective, I can pretty much say that when I managed to stay on it, I was losing weight at a rate of one pound a day. But many of those who believe and follow the caveman diet will tell you that it does much much more. For instance, there are reports that the caveman diet will obliterate arthritis if you are suffering from it. The theory is that our bodies weren’t evolved to eat the breads,grains and sugar that our society treats as the main food group and as a result, we have inflammation in the joints. Many Paleo dieters have claimed that their diet is a very effective way to treat arthritis, although there are no scientific studies to back such bold claims.

There are also reports that this diet will lower your blood pressure as well as cholesterol. And this is despite the fact, that many Paleo dieters eat very fatty proteins such as lamb and beef. Obviously, the most probable reason for this is the inevitable weight loss that comes from eating such a restrictive diet.

Speaking of restrictive, what can’t you eat on the caveman diet?

There is a laundry list of things to avoid but the most common are to avoid legumes, sugars, all processed foods, and finally all breads.
