The Green Tea Diet – 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge – Does it Work?

I’m sure I can speak for most people, that we want to sustain a healthy life so that we have the ability to live up to a ripe old age. One such sore subject we never like dealing with is weight loss. It’s the type of thing that we can turn on like a light switch, and on the opposite end, turn it off. But not exactly to our own free will. Weight loss and exercise was something I have always wanted to pursue and keep doing, but what are the right things for a man my age that I can easily do. I’ve decided to give the Green Tea diet a check for thirty days and see what all the buzz is about. I’ve heard so much good things, and doctors and scientists believe this herb has many positive elements that can help me curb my appetite, lower my blood pressure, and feel young.

Just an overview on what I have to deal with. First of all, I’m about 40 lbs over weight, I don’t have the best metabolism but I do live an active lifestyle full of sports. Secondly, I have inherited hypertension, it is in both my father’s side of the family and my mother’s, it’s inescapable! That is the overall realization I’m faced with, a foundation for my study. Let’s see what some of the results come out to be.

I dove head first into this diet to achieve one thing, not to lose the weight, but to see what it does to my blood pressure without depending on blood pressure medication. I’ll still eat my three square meals a day and use the green tea solution as my snack in between meals. Because believe me, I love my in-between snacks, and who doesn’t? So in the beginning of March, I took my last blood pressure pill, and bombs away!

After drinking green tea for the first week, I’ve noticed a drop in my blood pressure readings close to what they were when I took blood pressure pills. I was shocked because I didn’t think there was something that could have dropped it like that. I’ve also noticed a less desire to eat when I drink the tea, I don’t know where it comes from, but it could be a result on filling up on fluids. After another couple weeks, my blood pressure has held steady, so I know it is doing its thing. And after the final days, still no spike in the readings, so I was hooked. In the thirty days, I have also lost seven pounds, very nice! It seemed to me the urban legend was the truth! The one negative, green tea is not the most tastiest of teas, it kind of has that hint of grassy seaweed taste, but you get used to it.

In addition, from what I understand, green tea has antioxidants to prevent sickness, make our skin feel smooth, and protect our memory. But by seeing the short term effects, I can say that I will make green tea a regular staple in my diet. I would not recommend green tea pills as they have caffeine in there, don’t want to be up into the wee hours of the morning! All in all, my thirty day test has proven that green tea has great positive properties that just can’t be ignored. Let’s see what other effects it has six months from now!

Foods You Can Eat on the 80-10-10 Low Fat Raw Vegan Diet

You can eat lots of different foods on the 80/10/10 Low Fat Raw Vegan Diet which you might not have considered previously. Obviously, most of what you will eat on this diet, which reduces your fat and protein intake to a minimum, will be fruit. That’s the way it’s intended to be and there is no way of getting around it; and after a while eating on the 80/10/10 Low Fat Raw Vegan Diet, you won’t really want to. You’ll enjoy eating fruit so much, and feel so good after eating it, that you won’t need anything else.

Sunflower seeds are excellent raw foods. Eat them in-shell to make an enjoyable ritual out of it. They are high fat, but because it takes so long to eat them, you will feel like you’ve eaten a lot more; an excellent food for the 80/10/10 Low Fat Raw Vegan Diet for that reason.

How Many Calories Per Day Are Consumed on the NutriSystem Diet Plan?

I often get emails asking me to explain how many calories are consumed or taken in each day on NutriSystem.  I think that people ask this for a few reasons.  First, they want to make sure that the amount is not so low as to be dangerous.  Second, they want to know just how hungry they are going to be because they are afraid of feeling weak or light headed.  And, finally, they want to compare this with how many calories they normally take in on any typical day to gauge how dramatic their results will be.  I will discuss all of these concerns in the following article.

The Range Of Daily Calories On The NutriSystem Diet:  First off, I need to reassure that this definitely does not fall into the category of a ‘starvation” or overly restrictive diet where you need to be supervised by a doctor.  Such diets generally only allow around 800 or less calories per day.  Since you consume anywhere between 1200 -1500 calories per day on NutriSystem, you don’t reach anywhere near those levels.

The amount varies slightly depending on which of the plan’s means you chose throughout the day and which sides you add in at each meal.  You’re given pretty self explanatory guidelines to ensure that you chose your sides correctly, although you do have a lot of leeway and control in this. 

So we know that you’ll be taking in a decent amount of calories, but what about your proteins, carbs, etc?  They are very careful to  keep the carb to protein ratio favorable because they want for you to be able to get into ketosis where you are steadily burning fat.  This is why which sides you add in become important.  It would be a shame to cancel out all of your diligence by adding in high carb or high calorie sides.

How Many Calories Do You Normally Take In?: Obviously, most people lose weight once they begin burning more calories than they take in.  Studies show that the average woman today takes in around 1850 calories.  So, taking the average of 1200 -1500 (1350), you’d be consuming around 500 less per day, which can really add up. One gram of fat equals about 9 calories so this can be significant. (By the way, the typical man today takes in 2600, so the difference is even more significant in this scenario.)

A lot of people will ask me if they are going to feel weak or light headed when they reduce the fuel that they are taking in.  My experience is that it’s not as bad as you may have feared.  You are eating five times per day so there isn’t any long period of time between meals.  You get three larger meals and a snack and a dessert and you are of course adding in your fresh sides.  Also, they do allow you to drink liquids (tea, coffee, water, diet soda) between the meals (so long as you’re not consuming alcohol,) so this helps to break it up even more.

No doubt, exercise is important when it comes time to shed a few pounds. Also, you’ll see a spike in your energy level that will stay with you much, much longer than the rapid rise but also rapid fall of the burst of energy you get from a cookie or candy bar. This fruit is also very low calorie. You can eat several at a time, if you have the appetite, without worrying about taking in too many calories. They are also very high in fiber and water, another tool to use when trying to drop a few pounds.

Grapefruits also assist in controlling your insulin level, which play a large role in weight reduction, another reason to include this into your personal diet for burning fat. Insulin assist in the metabolism of the fat in your body. As your body breaks down your food and uses it for the different functions of your body, your insulin level plays a major role in that it helps determine whether your body burns up the fat as energy or stores it somewhere on your body, hoping to use it later. But “later” sometimes never happens, and the fat remains stored on your hips or thighs or midsection. If you can prevent your insulin levels from spiking after your latest meal, your body will have a better opportunity to burn the food as energy rather than storing it.

So when you are putting together your plan for a diet for burning fat and weight reduction, include a grapefruit a day. Eat a half in the morning with your breakfast and then the other half midway through the afternoon. Eating that in the afternoon will accomplish two things. It will kill the craving for something you shouldn’t eat and will assist in the controlling the insulin level, once again, preventing your body from storing fat. And if you just can’t stand the taste of grapefruits, just substitute oranges. Although not quite as effective as grapefruits, you will still enjoy many of the same healthy benefits.

Can the 3 Day Diet Plan Work For You?

No the 3 day diet plan isn’t where you diet for just three days. It’s actually an on again off again diet originating back in the mid 80’s and carries with it lots of controversy pertaining verifiable authenticity. Considered a Fad Diet by many, mainly because of unsubstantiated proof of whether it actually works, the diet is a 3 day regimen that has to be done strictly by the book followed by normal eating routine for several days then done over again. Supposedly participants can lose 10 pounds in the 3 days of dieting and there is also no exercise needed.

Of the many different opinions about the 3 day diet plan one is that water is what makes up the 10 lost pounds in every instance of lost body weight. Give it a try. But as a warning no attempts of any weight loss regimen should be tried without first seeing a doctor to be sure that there are no underlying problems that may be aggravated or intensified as a direct result of using this plan.

This type diet is very strict and straying from the principles could mean not being able to achieve the 10 lb. weight loss goal, that is if this 3 day diet plan actually works. Remember it is highly controversial. In addition, dieters drink 4 cups of water or non-caloric drinks each day too.

While there is a straight forward reason for how the alleged 10 pounds weight loss comes about, that being a unique metabolic reaction which boosts the natural fat burning process beyond normal capacities, there is no documentation or explanation of how the 3 Day Diet food combinations burn fat, increase energy, cleanse the body, or lower cholesterol. So does this 3 day diet plan actually work? Until certified documentation of verifiable authenticity is produced, you’ll have to be the judge.

Can I Use Or Substitute Atkins Shakes on the Medifast Diet?

The other day, I had someone email me and basically say: “I’m very interested in the Medifast diet. I’m very intrigued by the dramatic results my friend has had, but I want to know if I can just substitute the Atkins shakes in the grocery store for the Medifast ones.” I have to say that probably the majority of questions that I get about this diet have to do with the shakes.  There seems to be a perception that this plan is defined by them.  I understand this somewhat.  These items are tasty, filling, and pretty convenient, so there is a lot to like about them.  But, there are only one of many food choices.  However, I’ll answer the question about substituting the Atkins shakes in the following article.

Why Medifast Shakes Are So Popular And Are Beyond Comparison:  I believe that these shakes get so much attention because they are known to be pretty tasty while still being very low in calories and carbohydrates, and very high in protein and fiber.  There are not a lot of diet foods which are able to retain a decent taste and texture while being so sound nutritionally.  This combination (along with the other foods) puts you body in what I called the promised land which is technically defined as ketosis.  In this metabolic state, your body begins to turn on and burn it’s fat stores because you aren’t giving it the excess carbohydrates that commonly help with this job.

If you pick up and examine say a slim fast shake, you’ll see that there is really no comparison.  Most “diet shakes” are really full or sugar, calories, and carbs and therefore aren’t nearly as effective in getting you into ketosis.

Medifast Shakes Versus Atkins Shakes. Which Is Better?:  OK, let’s take a look at them side by side. I’ll be looking at the chocolate royale for Atkins and the dutch chocolate 55 for Medifast.  And know that I’m evaluating them based on their ability to get you into fat burning mode. (Although I do have to say that the Atkins shake has that chalky after taste that is nasty and typical of so many diet foods. I don’t find this on the 55 version. ) Any way, these two shakes are pretty similar in terms of protein, carbs, sugars and fiber.  In all of these categories, either would get you in ketosis (so long as you ate either diet’s meals for the remainder of the day.)  However, the chocolate royale has a whopping 170 calories per serving.  This is almost double the dutch chocolate’s 90 calories.

I find this to be a deal breaker. That’s almost like consuming two meals (at least in terms of calories) instead of one.  The whole point to this is to keep your calories low so that you can get in fat burning mode.  Why go through all the work and trouble and then consume a product that has twice as many calories?

What Are You Really Saving With The Atkins Shake?: I asked the person who sent the email why she wanted to substitute the other shake? She said she liked that she could pick them up at the grocery store and she perceived them to be a bit cheaper.  This actually isn’t really true.  These shakes average out to be well over $2 each. This is about what you would pay for Medifast too, sometimes less. 

And, I can’t stress this enough.  You are eating a variety of foods on this diet, and many of them aren’t liquid.  You will also eat eggs, chili, oatmeal, bars, etc.  And, most people place monthly orders and have the food shipped right to their door.  You don’t need to buy grocery store products on top of that. If you do, you’re spending more money than you need to for something that has many more calories than what you would get other wise.

If you use coupons or discounts, you can basically get 5 Medifast meals each day for about $8 each day (less then $2 each.)  But, if you add on a grocery store shake or two onto this, you’re bumping this up to $10 -$12 per day for food you don’t need that is giving you more calories.  It’s just unnecessary when they provide you with everything you need.
