Tankini, Bandini, Or Thong, Oh My!

Choose the Right Bikini for Summer

In 1946, Louis Reard, an engineer – and a Frenchman, of course! – fashioned a two-piece women’s swimsuit from 30 inches of fabric. Reard’s rival in bikini design, Jacques Helm, was actually the first to create the iconic two-piece swimsuit of the 20th century. Helm called his design the “atome” in a nod to the smallest particle in the world known at the time. A marketing genius, Reard introduced his skimpy two-piece design five days after the United States began atomic tests in the Bikini Atoll and named it “bikini” to suggest that it would have the same explosive impact on society as an A-bomb.

The bikini is a women’s two-piece swimsuit that covers the breast and groin areas. It was considered risqué when it first appeared in 1946, but the two-piece design was actually a throwback to very ancient times. Wikipedia cites the earliest form of a bikini appearing in the Chalcolithic Era (3500 BCE to 1700BCE). Bikinis appear in ancient Roman mosaics and murals, suggesting they were popular as swimming costumes among Roman women. Archaeologists have found Minoan wall paintings (circa 1600 BCE) showing a two-piece design very similar to the modern bikini, and women wearing bikinis appear on ancient Greek urns, ancient Sicilian floor mosaics, and statues from Pompeii.

Bikinis were accepted as mainstream swimwear fashion on the French Riviera long before being embraced by the public in the United States. The bikini was introduced to the U.S. in 1947, but its scandalous status remained in force well into the 1950s. Many American cities even passed laws to prohibit the wearing of a bikini in public. In 1957, Modern Girl magazine stated “It is hardly necessary to waste words over the so-called bikini since it is inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency would ever wear such a thing.” American women didn’t really jump on the bikini bandwagon until the late 1960s with the start of the so-called Sexual Revolution. Since that time, the bikini and its stylish variations have become the most popular swimsuit style in the U.S.

Because there are so many variations in bikini design, it helps to be familiar with the available styles before going shopping. Be aware, too, that your body shape and your level of self-confidence will also have an impact on the style you ultimately select.

All Natural Erectile Dysfunction Treatments

Erectile Dysfunction is a sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. According to Dr. Oz, it is estimated that by the time a man is 40, 20% will have suffered from erectile dysfunction. Each year that percentage is increasing. What causes men to suffer with this ailment can vary. The general cause of Erectile Dysfunction can be divided into 2 types:

  • Psychological causes
  • Physical causes

Psychological causes

For some men, Erectile Dysfunction can develop with age and the onset of stress and depression. Emotions can strongly affect sexual performance including being nervous or self conscious about having sex. Having an open communication with your sexual partner can alleviate a lot of the stress and possibly the Erectile Dysfunction itself. In some cases, professional psychological help may need to be sought out in order to get to the root of the problem that is causing the ED. Seeking the help of a sex therapist can also be an effective treatment. With a sex therapist, it is recommended that your sexual partner come along for at least the initial visit, to help discuss any communication problems you may be experiencing.

Physical causes

Some of the most common physical causes of Erectile Dysfunction are high blood pressure, clogged blood vessels, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, low testosterone levels, Peyronie’s disease, the use of tobacco, substance abuse including alcoholism, previous pelvic surgeries and certain prescribed medications. Of course there could be other physical causes of ED not on the list, that your doctor can detect. There are several different treatments for physically caused Erectile Dysfunction, some of which can be extremely costly. The two most popular treatments are surgery and natural supplements.

Surgical treatments

Surgical treatments for Erectile Dysfunction can involve direct injections to the penis, penile prosthesis and vascular surgery. These surgeries can be extremely invasive, costly and even dangerous. The surgical procedures are not guaranteed to cure ED and can leave devastating results. Possible surgical treatment should be thoroughly discussed with your doctor. Because of the risks involved, surgery should always be left as a last resort, only after other options for treatment have been exhausted.

Natural Supplements

Alternative treatments such as, taking natural supplements, has been a popular choice in treating Erectile Dysfuntion. In fact, the use of natural herbs is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. Natural herbs and supplements are known for improving and increasing the flow of blood to the penis. Here are some of the most effective natural ingredients used for treating Erectile Dysfunction:

Pomegranate 70% ellagic

Ellagic acid, a phenolic acid is found in berries, pomegranate, grapes, and nuts. Ellagic acid has shown to be a positive attribute in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. It does so by increasing nitric oxide (NO) supply that has a definite role in maintaining the blood flow (and hence erection) of your penis. Studies have also shown that ellagic acid acts as a strong sexual stimulant and aphrodisiac that eventually leads to longer excitement time and greater erection capabilities.

Muira Puama

Muira Puama or potency wood is one of the most active botanical with a long history of traditional use as an energy tonic, general health improver and remedy for impotence & sexual insufficiency. It is known in some circles as “the Viagra of the Amazon”. According to a study published in the American Journal of Natural Medicine, out of 262 men who took Muira Puama, 62% reported an increased sex drive and harder erections.

Epimedium Sagittatum (horny goat weed)

Used by practitioners for over 2,000 years, horny goat weed is a leafy plant which has long been used to restore sexual performance and boost erectile function. It also improves sperm production and has a moderate androgen-like influence on the testes, prostate gland, and anal muscles, thereby influencing sexual desire and activity.

Tongkat Ali (Asian Viagra)

Tongkat Ali is a tree that has been used for many years by men to increase sexual desire, libido, and sexual performance and to treat Erectile Dysfunction. It works by increasing levels of the hormone testosterone. Testosterone is primarily responsible for the growth and development of male reproductive organs, including the penis, testicles, scrotum, prostate, and seminal vesicles. It comes in different dosage ratios. For example, 1:20 means 20 grams of root is used to produce 1 gram of extract and is the recommended minimal dose to enhance sexual function and treat male impotency.

Methyl Sulfonyl Methane (MSM)

MSM, the beauty mineral, is necessary for collagen synthesis in tissues (including those of penis). Chemically, MSM is an organic form of sulphur, an abundant mineral in the body. Present naturally in meat, milk, fish, vegetables and fruit, it is easily lost in processing. It is, therefore, important to use a natural health supplement that contains sufficient quantities of MSM.

MSM also keeps cells from becoming rigid and rough. MSM is also believed to relieve stress, asthma, arthritis, inflammation, constipation, candida, detoxify the body and, most importantly, increase blood circulation through the penis that improves overall health look and health of the penis and even beautifies it.

L-Methionine

L-Methionine is an essential amino acid (protein) that helps against premature ejaculation. This essential amino acid has some role in the growth and development of normal penis. Essential amino acids are those that must be acquired through diet or supplements because the body cannot produce them. L-methionine is also believed to be essential for heart and brain function. The highest amounts of methionine per 200-calorie serving primarily are found in fish, meat and other animal products, but some vegetables are good sources as well. However, it is difficult to include the “recommended daily dose” of L-methionine by eating all of such food sources on regular basis. Nutritionists, therefore, recommend consuming some good natural supplement on daily basis that contains just the right amount of L-Methionine.

Maca

Maca is a root or vegetable that is widely known to act as libido-booster and sex enhancer. Unlike other herbs, it does not directly affect the sex hormones. Instead it has been proposed that it provides optimum levels of nutrients utilized by the body’s endocrine system. In a study that involved 4-month treatment with maca in nine adult men, increased seminal volume, sperm count, and sperm motility were observed.

Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Smooth and consistent blood supply to the penis is a must for erection, growth and better sex performance. To really get your blood going, natural circulation-enhancing nutrients such as Omega-3 fatty acids are best. Omega-3 also makes your nervous system function better and as sex is really about circuitry, it also improves your sex life.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed, also called linseed, contains a rich supply of lignans in its hull. Lignans are phytoestrogens that are helpful in maintaining a healthy ratio of testosterone. Optimal testosterone levels are crucial to a raised sex drive for both women and men. Besides enhancing sex drive, these nutty-flavored seeds contain essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, which are the major building blocks of all sex hormones.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps sinensis is a type of fungus that has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Cordyceps sinensis is a powerful aphrodisiac. Recent studies performed in both China and Japan demonstrated a 64 percent success rate among men suffering from impotence. Scientists have isolated two chemical constituents in cordyceps, (deoxyadenosine) and cordycepic acid (mannitol), which are thought to be the active compounds that increase sex drive.

All of these ingredients are safe and natural alternatives to surgical procedures. The use of natural supplements has proven to be a successful treatment for Erectile Dysfunction. One natural supplement that includes each of these proven ingredients is MaleExtra. Regardless of what treatment plan you choose, there is help for Erectile Dysfunction.

Wart Removal Myths and Misbeliefs

Wart is a common skin disorder caused by a virus called Human papillomavirus. They appear as small projections all over the body. Today, medical science have well developed to explain the pathophysiology of warts and to cure all kind of wart disorders using advanced treatment methods. However, some of us have wrong beliefs and assumptions regarding wart formation and its treatment.

Interestingly many of us believe that the projections in the body occur due to the action of creatures like toads, reptiles, spiders, insects etc. Like the same, there are many misconceptions regarding the treatment of warts. People all around the world do a lot of unscientific processes and procedures to get rid of warts. Some of these procedures are very dangerous and makes the condition worse. Some of the major fallacies regarding the wart removal are:

Wart removal using horsehair

We all know that Human papillomavirus cause warts, and the warts will not disappear until we destroy these viruses. Many people all around the globe believes that a thread tied in the base of the wart can cure the disease. For this procedure, people use different materials like threads, horse hair, women’s hair etc to tie the warts. In fact, a wart is nothing but the unusual growth of skin itself and appears as small projections and it consist of nerves and blood vessels same as the other body parts.

Tying the base of a wart using thread or hair will block the blood vessels of the wart that supplies nutrients and oxygen to the tissues. Finally, after few days, the tissues die naturally. However, this miracle does not happen always. The effectiveness of this procedure is very slow and the wart does not cure completely. The base of the wart may still have thousands of Viruses. The presence of a single virus can produce another wart in the same spot.

Dissection/removal of the wart

Dissecting the wart is the worse method of treatment that bears heavy pain and delivers zero result. The removal of wart may be successful if we dissect the wart in its first stage of growth. At the first stage, the wart growth is limited to the superficial skin layers, so cutting the wart from the base may be successful. In later stage, when a wart increases in size, it spreads into the deeper layers of skin and dissection of the wart at this phase is of no use. Cutting big warts may enhance spreading of wart viruses to adjacent tissues. In case of blood vessel damage, huge blood loss and abscess may occur with heavy pain.

Burning the wart

Many people believe that burning wart is the best way to get rid of the disease. They think that the viruses die while burning the wart tissues. However, this is not true, as this procedure cannot guarantee 100% virus destruction. Just one virus left in the spot is enough to produce more warts. Human papillomavirus die only in extreme temperatures. In LASER therapy, medical practitioner burns the warts using high temperature developed with the help of strong beam of lights at sterilized settings. Burning the wart in home environment with unsterile traditional methods may damage the surrounding tissues and the protective layer of skin named stratum corneum, which acts as the first layer of defense against pathogens. The pathogens are able to invade our body through the burned skin walls and may cause severe infections.

Today, a number of effective wart removal methods are available in medical sciences, which prevents the recurrence of warts by destructing the virus completely.

Tunturi Recumbent Exercise Bike Reviews

Recumbent exercise bikes are becoming ever more popular. Many prefer them because they are more comfortable for someone who is overweight or has lower back problems. One of the brand leaders in exercise bikes is Tunturi. But, how does its recumbent models compare? Are they good value for money?

Tunturi recumbent bikes don’t come cheap; you’ll be paying between $800 and $1,000 for one. There are currently two models being made the E40R and the E60R. The first thing you notice about either machine is how well made they are, combining aesthetics with solid construction. The seat adjustment is a breeze; you can slide it away or nearer the console, raise the height and adjust its incline. The consoles on both machines are identical and are large and easy to read.

Here’s what you get and what you don’t get for each of these machines.

The E40R comes with magnetic resistance of 10 levels, 3 numerical LCD displays and heart rate, effort and resistance controlled programs for motivating and efficient training. The E40R also comes with T-Pulse that allows you to adjust a heart rate controlled workout even when you’re cycling. The T-Scale function means you can edit and adjust the 8 pre-set profiles; again even when cycling. The bike has a weight capacity of 300 lbs and is powered by mains current.

The E60R has all the same features of the E40R but in addition you get to set and save your own workout programs. A Polar wireless heart monitor also comes as standard rather than as an optional extra. The construction is also slightly more robust and has a weight capacity of 330 lbs. It’s claimed that the E60R is for both domestic and light commercial use.

The warranty offered on both models is excellent. Both come with 2 years parts and labor which is extended to 3 if registered with Tunturi. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better warranty on any other bike.

For all but the most serious of users, the E40R is the better choice of the two; most won’t really need the stronger construction or the user programmable workout functions.

Are there any negative points with either machine? Well, like everything in life nothing is perfect. Although both come with magnetic resistance of 10 levels it would be better if there were more. For comparison, the Lifecycle R1 bike retails for around $1,200 or $1,500 depending on the console that comes with it, but comes with 20 levels of magnetic resistance.

Apart from that, I can’t really fault either the E40R or E40R; besides, the styling of these is much nicer than any of the recumbent exercise bikes by Lifecycle.

A Tunturi exercise bike is for those who take cycling seriously. Even if you prefer upright machines, you should definitely take a look at its upright models. When looking for reviews and ratings you’ll be hard pushed to found many negative comments; Tunturi recumbent bikes are among the best you can buy and most who own one appreciate that.

My Best Lavender Herb Care Tips

Lavender herb is one of my personal favorites – that aroma just can’t be duplicated and always conjures up images of vast purple fields swaying in a gentle breeze – I could just roll around in its splendor! My herb garden is never without a handful of lavender shrubs, they are the perfect addition to my garden as a whole – tainting it with it’s sweet scent and giving that ever so slight sense of wilderness and mysticism. I love to sleep with a pouch of it’s dried leaves under my pillow at night to send me off into a peaceful sleep. My lavender plants take good care of me when I feel slightly under the weather and the least I can do is to give some TLC back.

I want to share with you some of my best tips to growing lavender and taking care of this marvelous herb so that it can flourish in your gardens as well as my own. This article will tell you all you need to know about taking care of lavender so that you can benefit from its medicinal, culinary and decorative offerings.

How to Give Lavender the Best Start.

Purchase seeds from any nursery or garden center. This herb loves to bask in the sun and needs around eight hours of sunlight a day so take this into consideration when finding the perfect spot to start seeding.

Get digging around the bed to loosen up soil and remove any obstructions such as pesky weeds, rocks or other debris. Lavender has a rather large root system and needs plenty of room, expect to dig six inches deep to allow the root to spread.

You can increase the soil’s fertility by adding some compost manure into the bed where your seeds will be planted.

Give your lavender a better chance by growing it first in a pot, at least for a couple of weeks before transferring it to your prepared bed. Remember that the soil should be loose as opposed to compact.

When moving to the designated beds, ensure there is plenty of space between seedlings to allow for air to circulate and individual roots to grow. Cover the roots with loose soil.

To help water and heat retention, layer a little sand over the soil and plants. You will need to water lavender frequently in the first year for optimal growth and condition.

Caring for Your Lavender

Water your plants regularly and allow them to feed by providing plenty of compost manure. If you notice that the plant is yellowing mix some liquid sea kelp with fish emulsion and dilute with water before utilizing.

If your plants are turning brown at the base then this is a sign to decrease the amount of watering.

Trim the leaves down around a third during spring to allow re-growth and an eventual fuller bush.

Regularly cut down on spent stems, this will prevent a woody and malformed growth. Dead ends will split the plant.

Music Therapy Aids in Treatment of Anxiety Disorder

“Music is the universal language of mankind,” said Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the most popular American poet in the 19th century. No doubt, music touches everybody’s life one way or the other, and listening to it can have a soothing effect on our bodies and minds. No wonder, it enhances the listener’s mood.

In fact, music can be an effective tool in managing anxiety in individuals receiving treatment for anxiety disorder. Several studies unequivocally echo the numerous benefits that music can have in pacifying anxiety in people.

According to a 2015 systematic review and meta-analysis of data from 72 trials by doctors from Queen Mary University of London, surgical patients who listened to music reported to be significantly less anxious than those who did not. They also appeared more satisfied postoperatively. They observed that the patients who were permitted to choose the music showed non-significant reductions in pain and analgesia use.

“Cognitive activities such as listening to music can affect perceived intensity and unpleasantness of pain, enabling patients’ sensation of pain to be reduced,” felt the authors. They said, “Another potential mechanism could be reduced autonomic nervous system activity, such as reduced pulse and respiration rate and decreased blood pressure.” This explains the potential effect of music on anxiety.

Patients receiving treatment for an anxiety disorder can immensely benefit from the use of music as a complementary therapy. There are many generalized anxiety disorders treatment center that include music therapy in their treatment plans and asses its impact on the patients.

Another 2015 study titled “Music Therapy in Generalized Anxiety Disorder,” now available online, explored the possible benefits of music in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The authors said that music therapy is a novel approach in clinical psychiatry for generalized anxiety disorder.

The study used music therapy to decrease the symptomatology of this disorder following a structured protocol and the results visibly demonstrated that music therapy was effective in reducing anxiety and depression levels in GAD patients.

Key takeaways from the research:

  • Along with pharmacotherapy treatment, music therapy can reduce anxiety levels in case of a GAD.
  • Along with pharmacotherapy treatment, music therapy can reduce depression levels in a GAD case.
  • Music therapy can achieve a significant improvement in patients with GAD.

Well-known treatment programs like the GAD treatment Center can gain extensively from such researches, which would add a new dimension to the treatment.

A similar study by researchers at the University of Utah Pain Research Center also discovered that listening to music can be highly effective in reducing pain in high-anxiety individuals. Music, according to them, can distract people and can be effective among those who can easily become absorbed in cognitive activities. The research, which tried to evaluate the potential benefits from music in diverting psychological responses to experimental pain stimuli, unraveled that the arousal from the pain stimuli decreased reliably with the increase of music-task demand.

This shows that music has a role to play in reducing anxiety in people. It can divert the attention from a worry and work in mollifying anxiety symptoms in an individual. Extensive use of this therapy will assuage medication in anxiety treatment and also work as a long-term solution for anxiety disorder patients. Besides, it is cost effective as well.

After LASIK Eye Surgery Series Part I of III – Bathing and Showering

Once a LASIK eye surgery patient’s procedure is complete, their LASIK eye surgeon office sends them home with an accompanying driver to take a long nap. When they awake, they will already be able to experience clearer vision. However, it is imperative to remember that corneal tissue requires several weeks to completely heal. While this occurs, patients often have questions about when and how they complete certain everyday tasks after their LASIK eye surgery. This article is one of an upcoming three part series that discusses when post-op LASIK individuals can bathe and shower, how to approach required medications and how to complete daily activities until your eyes have completely healed.

In regards to bathing, numerous LASIK eye surgeons deem it acceptable to take a shower or birdbath the day after your LASIK surgery as long as you are extremely cautious and do not get hair care products and facial washing liquids too close to the eye. However, many LASIK eye surgeons recommend waiting for 5 days before water (or soap, shampoo, body wash, etc.) is allowed in the eye or your head is submerged in water. These precautions allow your corneal tissue to heal properly. If water, soap, shampoo and/or similar washing materials are not kept out of the eye for the 5-day post-op period, patients could:

  • Run the risk of infection with soap, water, shampoo, etc in eyes
  • Experience burning and irritation
  • Rub their eyes and wrinkle the corneal flap made during the LASIK procedure, risking corneal flap dislodgement
  • Accidentally exacerbate any dry eye symptoms/begin experiencing dry eye symptoms

In regards to swimming, LASIK eye surgeons’ offices heavily advise post-op LASIK eye surgery patients to wait for 14 days before jumping in the pool, hot tub, ocean or lake. Due to the chemicals in chlorinated water and the particles found in salt and fresh water bodies, irritation, redness and corneal tissue infection is a high possibility immediately after LASIK. Interactions with these bodies of water can slow the healing process or cause post-op damage.

Besides swimming, bathing and showering, post LASIK eye surgery patients are also prompted to closely monitor other aspects of everyday life for certain, short periods of time. Keeping a close watch on your progress while remaining safe and cautious is paramount for allowing your eyes to take time to fully adjust to the procedural changes. Medications, both required and optional, makeup practices and the proximity of pets and young children should also be monitored accordingly.
