Fasting And Bad Breath

Halitosis, or bad breath, is commonly experienced by almost every single person around. While few experience it occasionally, some people have it on a regular basis. It causes humiliation to those suffering from the condition especially when the person is in close proximity to someone else. For those who are fasting, bad breath is a very common experience. Fasting and bad breath are strongly correlated because the body’s digestive juices are still attempting to mutliply and process, even without any food there to be digested.

Bad breath is caused by several factors some of which include teeth and gum problems, gastrointestinal tract and stomach problems such as gastritis, acidity, dyspepsia (digestive problems), reflux, etc, upper respiratory tract problems, lung problems and some illnesses such as colds, infections, fever, etc.

Some people may suffer from intermittent episodes of temporary or slight halitosis due to drying of the mouth (xerostomia), poor oral hygiene and during illness. Temporary bad breath may also be observed if the person is fasting and is on an empty stomach for a long time.

In the absence of food, there is the release of digestive juices that begins to break down and also has an effect on the lining of the stomach that can result in foul odor which smells like stale food.

Fasting also results in reduction in salivary flow in the mouth leading to dryness of the oral cavity that can end up causing a smell. This is due to the bacterial buildup that occurs as the saliva is not present to swill out the bacteria from the surfaces of the teeth and the tongue. This coupled with the rise of digestive juices adds up to the terrible odor emanating from the breath.

When a person goes without eating for a long time, the absence of food causes the body begins to break down the fat reserves. This breakdown of fat causes the release of ketones which are pushed out along with the breath and gives a foul odor that resembles the stench of sour apples.

When a person is about to go for a special occasion or if he/she is under a lot of stress and if they are fasting for a long time, there is an increase in the drying of the mouth and increased release of digestive juices because of the stress that will lead to bad breath.

If the person has habits such as smoking, then this is not considered halitosis, but it can certainly contribute to halitosis problems. Even the consumption of alcoholic drinks on an empty stomach can increase the incidence of problems.

To avoid bad breath associated with fasting, avoid being on an empty stomach for long lengths of time. Even if it is not possible to consume a full course meal, it will help if you make sure to have a small snack or even just a lot of water. This is usually very helpful when the person is experiencing anxiety before a special occasion.

When fasting, the use of some mint, chewing gum or lozenges can help because this increases the flow of saliva in the mouth and helps in better flushing out of the bacteria that causes bad breath.

Fasting for a long time is not a good idea, as it can have harmful effects on the digestive tract and also cause the breakdown of body fat reserves, all of which will lead to having a very smelly breath. Fasting and bad breath can be avoided with a simple combination of treatments and lots of water.

Tips To Burn Body Fat Effectively

Getting rid of fat is the dream of a lot of people, in fact many of them try to cut fat on a specific place on the body, they then devote their attention on a single part, when they should focus on exercising the whole body.

Living with fat on the body might seem without consequences, but the reality is that excessive presence of fat on your body can cause you many medical complications, diabetes, heart diseases, high cholesterol, hypertension, breast cancer etc, fortunately you can get rid of the fat on your body with some tips.

-Get enough sleep every night:

Most adults feel good after 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Sleeping less than five hours or more than eight hours each night can increase your risk of accumulating fat in your body if you are under 40, according to a US study. Getting a good quality and enough sleep, can also help you improve your mood and reduce your stress level. This also reduces your risk of accumulating fat because people under stress tend to have a high level of the hormone cortisol, which is related with the accumulation of fat.

-Burn calories with a daily exercising:

Just combine a cardio training with 20-30 minutes of weight training at least 2 times a week will help you burn the fat throughout your body. Add a goal of at least 30 minutes of jogging, swimming or any other exercise more than 5 times a week. Alternatively, aim to do at least 20 minutes of vigorous physical exercising (such as running) three days a week.

-Start cycling more often during the week:

Cycling is a very effective way to cut some fat throughout your body, it can also strengthen and tone your lower body. With an hour of cycling, you may burn between 500 and 1000 calories, depending on the speed and resistance.

Try those tips to cut some fat and stay in shape.

Program Yourself For A Successful Fat Burn process:

The idea of the program is to be able for you to develop a consistent approach to weight loss as well as a healthy endurance when exercising. Of course the objective of that program is to get rid of the excesses in your body, the excess fat. Not the healthy and lean muscle tissues and body fluids.

The program first requires your focus and dedication, so therefore you need to be prepared in both mind and – of course – body.

It is important that when starting on any weight loss program, one should be positive enough to work for the results. Some people get impatient easily but long term effects are assured as long as one sticks to the weight loss plan at hand.

Stretch, stretch and stretch some more. Before actually doing those exercises and working out those muscles, a little stretching is needed in order to avoid any injury or soreness in your body.

It is also not advisable for anyone to try too hard. Everything should be done in moderation. Find the level of exercise and training that suits you. It should be enough for you to be comfortable in but not too convenient that it will not be much of a challenge.

The first week:

The first day of the program involves a long and steady walk in a little over twenty minutes. After the walk, follow it up with a good stretch. This takes so little of your time for the first day. In less than an hour you have taken that first step to a weight loss program that could work to your advantage.

By the second day, it is good to focus on an upper body workout. This maintains your strength to be able to go through the whole program for the week. On the third day, a brisk walk or jog for ten minutes is in order. For beginners, a lower body workout should be done in the evening.

In the fourth day, a good rest is in order, as well as a good stretch. This lag time should be used wisely though to sort out any negatives in your mindset. The fifth day starts with a good ten minute walk. Exercise the lower body in four sessions of workouts, follow this up with another ten minute walk, and another four sessions of lower body workout.

The sixth day should be spent on a low impact exercise such as swimming. To avoid boredom, do not be afraid to try something new. The last day of the week is a time to solicit the support of the people you care about. Spend time with them or get them to be with you in your long walk. Again, follow up your walk with a light upper body workout.

This is just the beginning though. If by this first week you are able to stick to the program, you have a great chance to further boost your weight loss and stay with the plan until you achieve your desired result. Try as much as possible to be unlike the people who give up easily just because they could not see the result they want at the time they want – like this moment, today, now! Patience is a virtue. The same way it took your body time to gain all that weight, think about it as the time your body will have to exert just to get rid of it.

Arborist and Tree Stress Treatment

When a human suffers from an illness it is easy to detect because humans can communicate their discomfort to a doctor. The same thing does not apply to plants and trees because of their inability to communicate. Diagnosing tree problems requires professional expertise. Thus is anyone is looking for tree treatment then there are experts that can do this job. In this way you can easily take care of the fungi and pest related issues that are affecting the health of a tree.

The longer a plant or a tree’s ill-health remains undetected greater the risk that recovery period will be long and eradication from illness will be a stressful one for the tree. This is a job that can be handled by a certified arborist. A certified arborist will identify the root cause of the problem by determining whether the problem is a new development or an issue from the past that has flared up again. Pathology, entomology, climate horticultural practices, soil science, botany and the knowledge of trees are some of the areas which are needed for the proper diagnosis.

To avoid tree stress plant care is very important. Things like good soil, watering them and taking out the unwanted weeds basic essentials of good care. Steps like a yearly health diagnosis for trees and plants will go a long way in ensuring that your trees and plants remain healthy.

One of the important area is mitigation during tree construction. From the beginning of the project when you are constructing your home there should be a presence of an arborist who will actually identify the soil condition. This way soil compaction can be measured. There are lots of things like the damage roots, tree bark, automobiles and bulldozers can ruin the soil. Thus it would be better to hire the services of an arborist who will be completely responsible to ensure that after the trees and plants have been placed there would be no issue that would lead to ill-health.

Trees that are in stress and are sick are more likely to be infested with diseases and insect pests. Plant and tree sickness can arise due different environmental reasons such as excessive watering, little watering, excessive fertilizers, grade changes, soil compaction and ill-adapted plant varieties among others. The best arborists will advise you that the simple way to keep trees and plants healthy is to help them remain stress free. This way they have a better immune system that helps them fight diseases, pests and other infections.

How to Lose Weight – And Never Gain It Back

Recently, I was interviewed on a radio program dedicated to the topic of living life regret free. I was disappointed I didn’t know about that program earlier. (Get it? See what I did there?) Anyway, who would think that when someone is interviewing me, the subject might shift to the topic of weight loss? What a surprise! The host asked a series of questions on all the psychological, physical, and even spiritual aspects of dropping weight and finally landed on the big Kahuna for anyone who has ever faced the battle of the bulge, “So, you’ve worked with literally tens of thousands of people in this area. What’s your guess as to why so many people regain their weight?”

It’s a sad truth.

According to an article earlier this year, nearly 65 percent of people who lost weight return to their starting point (or higher) within three years. That’s per the clinical director of the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the University of Pennsylvania so one can take that stat to the bank. As for folks who try crash diets, defined as any unhealthy diet, from severe calorie-restriction diets to diets that consist of only a few kinds of foods; the outlook is even bleaker. Wellsphere, a website sponsored by Stanford University, reports that only five percent enjoy long-term success. That measurement also includes dieters who lose weight rapidly. For clarification, a sustainable (e.g. “non rapid”) weight loss is considered to be a long term average of .5 to two pounds a week.

So, back to the question; why do up to 95 percent of people regain their weight within a few years? I don’t have to guess to answer it. Pure and simple, their goal was misplaced. They mistakenly opted to lose weight rather than re-create their lifestyles. Said elsewise, they focused on how fast they could get the number on the scale to drop instead of developing habits to see how long they could a sustainable and reasonable lifestyle to support a healthy weight once they achieved it.

You see, the vast majority of people who decide to drop those extra pounds get trapped in the “how fast can I lose it/how long will it take” treadmill. Virtually every decision is aimed at speeding up the process, mistakenly believing that if they can get the weight off, everything will work its way out. They’re so stuck in the “now” that they don’t take time to realize there will be a “then.” It is similar to spending every single penny made during your career on what you want immediately without any regard for what you’re going to do upon retirement.

Those of us successful at long-term weight maintenance are neither smarter nor better nor luckier. Rather, after banging our heads against the wall several times, usually after several failed attempts similar to what was already described, it dawned upon us: What we weigh is a one reflection of the manner in how we lead it our lives. It is not only about what we eat nor is it random happenstance. We did this to ourselves, most likely unwittingly, but done nevertheless. Logically then, we have to rebuild our lives and the scale will automatically reflect those changes. The definition of what that looks like varies but usually includes developing patience, accepting setbacks better, realizing time is out of your control, eating and cooking in a healthier fashion, increasing activity, changing self-talk, and in general, learning better to enjoy the ride, rather than wait for the destination.

Once that becomes a lifestyle, a healthy, sustainable weight becomes an unavoidable result.

3 Drills That Make Batting Cage Work More Productive

Batting cage batting practice is a great way to improve batting skill, bat speed and batter confidence. This article discusses three Hitting Drills That Make Batting Cage Work More Productive. The three drills are the MOVE UP, COUNT ADJUSTMENT and LINE DRIVE CONTEST. These drills are great ways to get maximum benefits from your batting cage workouts. The three drills are:

Move Up Batting Drill

Purpose: Used to improve bat speed, visual concentration, and batter confidence.

Description: The MOVE-UP hitting drill: The batter learns to see and hit the ball quicker out of the machine or batters hand. Before the drill begins, 4 spots are marked on the floor, in measured distances of 40, 35, 30, and 25 feet. The machine or pitcher should maintain a safe medium speed velocity during this drill. The accuracy of your pitching machine must be checked and rechecked during the drill for safety purposes. The spots are the locations at which the batter will take a certain number of swings. The batter hits 4 balls at each spot and then move closer to the machine or pitcher at the next spot.

Procedure: The batter hits 4 to 6 balls at each spot, then moves to the next spot closer to the machine or pitcher. The machine or pitcher should not deliver the next pitcher until the batter assumes a proper stance, triggers or loads to the proper launch position, and has visual focus on the pitcher or machine. The batter starts the drill at 40 feet and hits at all spots until he has hit 4 to 6 balls at each spot, ending with ball hit at the closest spot to the pitcher, 25 feet. Distances can be shortened or made longer to meet the needs of your players.

Coaching Points: Sometimes you may have the player hit two balls at each spots moving toward the machine and then hit two balls at each spot moving away from the machine, until two balls are hit at each location or distance. This process makes the batter adjust to varying changes in pitch speed. This drill is great for teaching batters to stay-back and let the ball in.

Count Adjustment Drill

Purpose: The drill is great for teaching young hitters to make adjustments in their approach at the plate based on the current count. Batters learn to be properly aggressive for the following counts or situations 0-0, 2-0, 0-2, 3-1, runner at 3rd with 1 or less outs, and hit-in-run.

Procedure: In a normal cage hitting, the players would be hitting every pitch in the correct and proper direction based on the pitch location. To change the approach, a coach calls a count such as 2-0. For the next two pitches, the batter will be properly aggressive as he would with that count in a game. Of course in this situation, the batter is looking for a pitch in that perfect spot. If the ball is at that anticipated location, the batter attacks, the ball. If the ball is not in that spot the batter will hold off the pitch and adjust to the new count of 2-1 or 3-0. If the coach calls, Runner at 3rd, the batter is looking for a pitch up to drive deep enough for a score or tag and score. The batter will try to lift the ball and drive a deep fly ball to the outfield. If the coach calls for a Hit-and-Run swing, the batter will execute a hit-and-run approach at the plate and hit the ball in a direction that would be behind the runner.

Line Drive Contest Drill

After a session of batting cage workouts, it is good to end the day with a competitive and fun line-drive hitting contest. An assistant coach will do the pitching. The coach is protected by a L-screen. The player should only swing at great pitches. The contest is to see which player hits the most line-drives in a row. A line-drive is a ball that hits the side walls, back wall, or pitchers L-Screen hard and directly off the batters bat. The hit ball can not touch the top of the cage in front of the pitching protective L-Screen. As long as the batter hits line-drives with each swing, the batter adds one to his score for each line-drive hit. This drill is a good method of teaching batters to perform and hit under pressure.

Hypnosis to Forget Someone – Getting Over an Ex

Have you been obsessing over an ex boyfriend or girlfriend and can’t seem to get over the relationship? We all know that breaking up with someone can be deeply painful, make us feel depressed and cause terrible mood swings. In my hypnotherapy practice, it’s quite normal to receive frantic phone calls from both men and women, requesting hypnosis to get over a relationship.

If you are experiencing emotional pain over the break up, it’s important to understand what factors might be contributing to your emotions. While hypnosis can be highly effective in improving your self esteem and confidence; in my opinion, being hypnotized to forget about another person is just not practical.

How can Hypnosis Help Get Past a Relationship?

Hypnosis is a tool which can be used to help you make powerful and healthy changes in your own thinking. According to cognitive behavioral therapy, our thoughts contribute highly to our emotions and stress levels. This is why it’s a much better idea to be hypnotized to love your self again, rather than try to erase the memories of someone else. I’ll bet there was once a time, not so long ago, when would go out with friends, engaged in things you liked to do, and have a lot of fun.

That interesting, and lovable person is still there, but right now, your conscious mind is too fixated on the break up. Our conscious mind is constantly analyzing situations and is always working. Sometimes, our conscious even comes up with false labels to describe a given situation; such as: I’ll never be happy again or, he was the only person who will ever love me. It isn’t long before these distorted thoughts stop you from being happy on your own. Hypnosis works by challenging your own irrational distortions, and by making positive, healthy suggestions to your subconscious. After a hypnotic session, you will begin to see the other person for who they really are, instead of who you want them to be.

How does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis isn’t some kind of voodoo or magic trick. In fact, most of us have naturally experienced hypnosis in our own lives in one manner or another. Hypnosis is nothing more than a deeply relaxed, highly focused state of mind, by where the hypnotist makes suggestions to your subconscious. While you are in trance-like state, your conscious mind is tranquil, rather than judging and critiquing. A person in hypnosis can wake up at anytime, and can’t be made to act in a way which goes against their natural behavior. Likewise, a person under hypnosis isn’t a zombie, and doesn’t behave like a robot. If you are going to have hypnosis for relationship problems, the hypnotist will probably try to lower your stress levels, by having you focus on something peaceful and serene. Once your mind is calm, the hypnotist can talk to the non-judgmental part of your mind-the subconscious. You can be hypnotized to look at your ex as someone who doesn’t deserve your love, or someone that isn’t worth your time. This is a far more healthy alternative than trying to pretend you never met in the first place.

Relationship Addiction

A good hypnotherapist will explore the reasons you are having so much trouble coping with the loss of a relationship and use hypnosis to boost your self confidence. For a moment, look at your past relationships. Do you see a pattern where you seem to date the same type of people? Do you hang on to the relationship, even when you know it’s not healthy? When one relationship ends, do you jump right into the next? In fancy psychological terms, this phenomenon is known as co-dependency or relationship addiction. Often relationship addiction can be a learned behavior, or stem from unresolved issues from the past; such as a parents divorce or being abandon either physically or emotionally as a child. The worst fear in the world for the co-dependent person is the thought of being alone. In hypnosis therapy, the hypnotist helps the individual learn healthy coping skills and new behaviors in an effort to not repeat the same unhealthy pattern.

It’s normal to feel bad after a relationship has ended. However; if you find yourself chronically depressed after the break up, and can’t find the motivation to function, it might be a good idea to seek professional help. You will be loved by someone again one day and love someone else-it just takes a little time. Hypnosis can be used to help you get over an ex, simply by changing the way you see your ex, and more importantly, how you see yourself.

7 Beauty Tips For Acne Prone Skin

Acne. Boy do I hate it. Those pimples popping up all over my face back in my teenaged years. Even now, I do get acne outbreaks when I am stressed, or use the wrong skin care product. I’ve been to many doctors who are able to clear my acne, until the next outbreak.

Part of the reason is oily skin. Greasy skin that traps dirt and skin debris clogging up pores make your skin pores an excellent breeding place for bacteria. The bacteria multiplies and voila. You have acne.

All is not lost. If you have oily skin that is prone to acne, here are 7 beauty tips to help keep the pimples away.

1. Keep your HANDS off your face.

You hands, after touching so many things, opening the door, picking up a bag, things we do everyday, are covered with bacteria. The last thing you want is to put that bacteria on your face. Touch your face often with your hands, or worse still, pick those pimples with your fingers, and you will see the pimples multiply.

2. Keep your HAIR off your face.

If you have oily skin, you probably have oily hair. Oily hair brushing against your face adds to the oil. Oil, sweat and skin debris are a great way to clog the pores in your skin, leading to more pimples. If you notice pimples appearing on your forehead, or your cheeks and chin, typically where your hair might brush against, your hair could be the culprit. Wear a hairband, use hair clips to keep your hair off your face, tie it into a pony tail, or get a hair cut.

3. Wash your face 3 times a day with a good acne cleanser.

I got that tip from a doctor. I washed my face when I woke up, at lunch time and at bedtime with a cleanser that is meant for skin that has acne. My skin cleared when I stuck to the routine and used only skin care products meant for skin with acne. A bar of soap meant for washing your face does the trick just as well.

4. Stick to acne skin care

Every time I stray from that point, I end up with a major acne outbreak. Always. Everytime I see my pals with exceptionally radiant skin, I want to use whatever they use. I would switch to richer, anti aging skin care as a preventive measure, worried about wrinkles appearing when I get older. That backfires every time. I end up with more pimples. Stick to good acne skin care products [].

5. Relax

Did you notice how pimples tend to appear more before a stressful event. Exams. A big date. A presentation. Stress wreaks havoc on your skin. Ok, pimples can also pop up due to hormonal imbalances, like just before your period.

6. Sleep

Your skin heals itself when you sleep. Your entire body heals itself in your sleep. A night without sleep may lead to more pimples. Make it a habit to leave your worries behind and get a good night’s sleep. Work out more earlier in the day. Get some exercise before evening. It helps.

7. Stay away from pressed powder compact.

Yup. You heard me right. I got this tip from a friend. Her friend used a pressed powder compact to hide her acne. Instead, the more she used it the worse it got. Just think. By mid day, your skin gets oily. You take out the powder compact, and use that powder puff to apply pressed powder on your face. Now, your face would already have dirt, bacteria and oil on it. Pat your face with that powder puff and now that puff picks up the dirt, bacteria and oil. You put it back into the compact. The bacteria happily breeds in there. Then you take out the compact again and pat more powder, mixed with oil, dirt and bacteria onto your face, picking up more gunk, putting in more gunk into your compact. The cycle goes on. A better bet would be to use blotting paper to blot off the excess oil instead. Then you can throw the paper away after use. Use the blotting paper meant for your face like the ones found at []

About this powder puff thing, make it a point to wash your powder puff and all your make up brushes regularly, with soap and water. Then dry them completely before you keep them. Guess that would make it an 8th tip right?

Oily, acne prone skin needs a lot of care. The bright side is that oily skin is slower to show signs of aging than dry skin. Take care of your skin and you’ll probably look younger than your peers as the decades go by.

Thousand Pillar Hall – An Acoustic Marvel in Madurai Meenakshi Temple

India is very famous for its temples. Thousands and thousands of temples built and maintained from time immemorial. The sculptures and the building techniques will speak itself the glory of the great tradition.

Madurai is situated at 462 kilometers south of Chennai (Madras as it was known in earlier times). The famous Meenakshi Amman Temple is located in the centre of the city. Inside the temple, there are famous halls like Marriage Hall, Thousand Pillar Hall etc.

The Thousand Pillar Hall is very famous for its beautiful construction.

The hall, even though called as thousand pillar hall, it has only 985 pillars. The pillars are erected in such a way as to fall in line from any angle we view..

In the year 1983, an expert team from audiology department went in to the hall and carried out an extensive study. They have used latest scientific gadgets and found that there is absolutely no echo in any part of the temple even with all the crowd around the sound level seldom exceed 80 dB (decibel)

Naturally the noise level in a quiet surrounding will be 40 dB, in a crowded street about 80-85 dB and at the airport when a jet aircraft takes off, it will be about 100 dB.

According to the team headed by Dr Kameswaran, an ENT specialist, there appears to be a built-in mechanism in the precincts of Madurai temple for containing the echo. The total noise does not exceed a specific level which would make it unpleasant to the visitors.

The temple is an acoustic marvel, observed the experts. Near the road there is one Ashta Shakti Hall. There the noise level is only 40 dB.

The team members said that with this ambient noise it is possible for a person to contemplate and meditate the Divinity.

Roughly about 5000 to 6000 people visit the temple daily. And the sound level recorded during the peak hours is of the order of 70 dB to 80 dB.

It implies that the artisans were aware of the basic principles of acoustics. The huge icons on the unpolished pillars, the distribution of vents, the allocation of open space all around, are all mechanisms to contain the noise level. The arrangements are so made that is not crude but there is an artistic planning combining utility with beauty. This arrangement strangely contrasts with arrangement made in certain modern buildings where instruments for breaking noise and absorbing sound are hung from the roof in a very clumsy and unartistic manner.

This hall is a classic example of perfect sound engineering technique. The average height of each pillar is about 12 feet. The pillars depicts four kinds of motifs, one consisting of moulded squares, the other with rampant dragon, the third with a figure of a deity and the fourth that of a donor or his family. The unpolished pillars of exactly of same size and shape are placed at mathematically accurate positions. These aspects have made the hall echo resistant.

In addition, the pillars are so peculiarly arranges that anyone sitting at a specific spot could view a central figure without any obstruction in any position. At any position inside the hall, in consequence to the arrangement of the pillars, there open up around us 16 colonnades of varying width and such length of each side that the perspective afforded by them is simply marvelous.

The expert team rightly described the thousand pillar hall as an acoustic marvel.

Thousands of such intricate wonders are hidden in these Indian temples.

The Ancient Practice of Sun Gazing

Sun energy is the source that powers the brain. It enters the body through the elements of air, water, fire, and earth. Sunlight enters and leaves the human body most easily and directly through the human eye, provided it isn’t filtered out by colored lenses. The eyes are the grand portals through which sunlight enters the body.

Sun gazing is an ancient practice that can induce healing of body and mind.

The eyes are very complex organs, consisting of 5 billion parts intricately designed and functioning in unity. The primary function of the eye is light-dark perception. Even the most basic, simplest ‘eyes’, such as those belonging to unicellular organisms have no other function but to detect whether the surroundings are light or dark in order to maintain the circadian rhythms.

Acting as a photo lens, the human eye is able to break down the entire spectrum of sunlight into the different color rays – a sort of ocular prism. In a camera, the various rays of light react with the chemicals of the film and encode the pictures you take accordingly. Likewise, upon entering the pineal gland in the brain, the different light rays are chemically encoded in the brain and passed on to the organs and systems in the body.

The vital organs of the body are dependent on specific colors of the light spectrum. For kidney cells to function properly, for example, they require red light. Heart cells need yellow light, and liver cells require green light. Light deficiencies in any of the organs and systems of the body can lead to disease. Regular sun gazing can help restore balance and efficiency to all cells in the body.

The pineal gland is one of the most researched glands of the body. Scientists have established that bright light stimulates the production of serotonin and melatonin in the pineal, but there are other neurochemicals produced by the pineal that have more profound and complex effects apart from regulation of moods, sleep, reproductive function and body temperature.

Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, including Dr. George C. Brenarr, a leading authority on the pineal gland, observed the sun yogi HRM (Hira Ratan Manek) for 130 days in 2002. They found that his pineal exhibited growth and reactivation. The average size of the pineal is 6×6 mm, but in HRM’s case it was 8×11 mm.

Scientists refer to the pineal gland as the ‘atrophied third eye’. Indeed, it, along with the pituitary, is the third eye chakra or energy center, better referred to as dormant rather than atrophied. According to Max Heindel’s Rosicrucian writings, in the distant past, man was in touch with the inner worlds through an activated pineal and pituitary gland. Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the third eye has always been important in initiating psychic powers (clairvoyance and seeing auras etc).

To activate the ‘third eye’ and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal and the pituitary must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through meditation or sun gazing. When a correct relationship is established between the personality operating through the pituitary, and the soul operating through the pineal, a magnetic field is created. The pineal can generate its own magnetic field because it contains magnetite. This field can interact with the earth’s magnetic field. The solar wind at dawn, charging the earth’s magnetic field, stimulates the pineal gland. This is why many spiritual teachings claim that the period between 4 and 6 am is the best time to meditate and why sunrise is the best time to sun gaze. At these times, the pineal stimulates the pituitary to secrete Human Growth Hormone. That is why sun gazers often experience rapid nail and hair growth, restoration of hair color, and general rejuvenation. Cleopatra used to place a magnet on her forehead to stimulate the pituitary to restore her youth and good looks. She did not know she already had a magnet in her head.

The technique of sun gazing demands no more than time and attention, and is very simple. One should gaze at the sun only in the morning or evening hours, about one hour or less after sunrise or before sunset. Look at the rising or setting sun once a day. On the first day, look at the sun in a relaxed manner for a maximum of 10 seconds. On the second day, look at it for 20 seconds, adding about ten seconds every succeeding day. After ten continuous days of sun gazing you will be looking at the sun for about 100 seconds. The eyes can blink or flicker and don’t need to be steady. To receive the main benefits of sun gazing, you need to increase the duration in the above manner until you reach three months. This brings you up to the length of 15 minutes of gazing at a time.

At this stage, the sun energy of the sun’s rays passing through the human eye will be charging the hypothalamus tract – the pathway behind the retina leading to the human brain. As the brain increasingly receives extra power through this pathway, you will find a drastic reduction of mental tension and worries. With access to this additional source of energy, you are likely to develop a more positive mindset and increased self-confidence. If you suffer from anxieties and depression, you will find that these go away. Sadness and depression are known to increase with reduced or lack of exposure to sunlight. With fewer worries and fears, your brain may use the saved and additionally supplied energy for healing and improvement of mental and physical wellbeing.

One of the most frequently reported benefits of regular sun gazing is improvement of eyesight.

Life giving, golden rayed, the eternal watchful eye, called ‘the beginning’ and ‘the ultimate truth’ by wisdom, the Sun is also the earliest acknowledged doctor of mankind. We have turned to him for healing since ages – since our very beginnings.
