These are fantastic to go deep with and get a great stretch at the bottom end of the movement helping to expand your overall muscle fibers.

Then follow this up with –

3×12,10,8, Flat Bench Dumbbell Fly’s

Next – it’s time to return to your favourite Bench and this time to adjust it to the Decline Setting.

Then move directly into a Set of Incline Pushups to failure.

The interview portion of a beauty pageant is where the contestant has her chance to reveal that she is much more than a pretty face or a perfect body. The interview reveals the qualities that she holds dear and true to her heart as well as reveals her level of self-confidence in the areas that she believes in. To answer interview questions effectively, the contestant will need to focus on gathering her thoughts before hand. Her answers should be given in a logical and coherent manner as well as spoken with proper inflection and annunciation. Several years ago I was diagnosed with lupus. I could barely get out of bed or walk, had a hard time holding a glass of juice due to joint pain, suffered from all over body muscle aches, endured a constant low grade fever, and itched uncontrollably on my arms with skin rash. On my first (and last) visit to the rheumatologist I asked what I could do to support my health or to avoid a worsening my lupus symptoms. Straining to get some kind of supportive information I mustered up a question about diet and if there were foods I should eat or avoid. Her response was, ‘continue to eat whatever you want, it won’t make a difference’.

After one more attempt at getting something useful to work with to help myself, I realized I was on my own dealing with lupus. In an internal fit of rage toward her cold, aloof attitude I decided right then and there that I would heal my lupus, (with the added bonus to never endure the presence of that ‘specialist’ again). I did. I don’t have lupus anymore.

As someone who has healed Lupus, I often get asked about the importance of diet. Many people tell me that their doctor also told them diet doesn’t matter. To that I ask you to consider does what you eat matter even when you are healthy? Of course it does, and it’s far more important when you’re suffering from ill health!!

In fact, diet matters so much that there are many testimonies of others who have completely healed from a lupus diet alone. Other common serious issues diet has been responsible for reversing also include fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, M.S., migraines, allergies and asthma to name just a few.

  1. Do not drink alcohol, pop (a.k.a. soda for those in the U.S.!), energy drinks, or other ‘acidic’ non-healthy drinks, including treated or public drinking water facilities.
  2. Do not eat processed foods, or foods with unhealthy preservatives such as MSG (which include most foods in the centre isles of big box food chains).
  3. Do not eat red meat. A little fish such as salmon is great, and chicken. For some even these may trigger flares, so be cognisant of how it makes you feel.
  4. Avoid fatty foods, (such as mono saturated fats, trans-fats, saturated fats, and some polyunsaturated omega 6 fats) found in commonly baked, fried and junk foods.

  6. Avoid spicy foods. Spices are known to trigger flares.
  7. Avoid artificial sweeteners. These are toxic and by many believe it to even induce disease (I agree). There is no viable reason to use this product and they do not help you lose weight.

The 7 Top Lupus Diet Do’s

  1. Eat a diet that mostly consists of simple, natural whole foods such as fruits and vegetables in its raw form.
  2. Eat easy to digest foods, such as soaked almonds, soups, fruit/veggie smoothies, and salads based on natural, raw ingredients.
  3. Be sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day. This supports the elimination of toxic build up in the body, and a faulty digestive process common with lupus sufferers.
  4. Support your body by supplementing with digestive enzymes and probiotics. Most lupus patients are not absorbing their food and nutrients properly and need extra enzymes to support the healing process.
  5. You must consume enough essential fatty acid (EFA’s), or supplement with it. This will support you in reducing inflammation and therefore reducing pain and avoiding flares.

Hair Loss in Women, Get the Facts Before You Act

In the United States alone, pattern hair loss affects over forty million men. Less well known is that hair loss also occurs in twenty million women. Until recently, few viable options existed for women experiencing this problem. Today, great strides in research and treatment are occurring. In this article we will focus on the latest and greatest treatments as well as future therapies looming just around the corner.

But first, a short discussion to lay the framework for gender-based similarities and differences. In both sexes it’s called “pattern” hair loss because hair inside zone of loss is subject to thinning and fallout. Hair outside the zone is generally considered to be immune. This single fact has driven hair transplant surgery for more than fifty years because hair transplanted into the thinning zone retains its genetic immunity and continues to thrive. But there is an important caveat.

In men, pattern hair loss tends to leave a healthy dense area of hair bearing scalp available for transplantation. In women, this does not always occur. Often, women lose hair across the entire scalp to a degree that renders hair transplant surgery a non-starter because you’d be trading one region of sparse hair for another. Another point of differentiation between the sexes is that women with thinning hair tend to retain their juvenile or feminine hair line while bi-temporal recession is a very common finding in men. Thus, concisely, in men, the area of hair loss tends to be more severe but anatomically limited — while in women the degree of loss may not be as severe but the extent of affected territory may be much more extensive.

In this article, we will not delve into the biochemical hallmarks that differentiate male from female pattern hair loss. Suffice to say, the common biochemical features linked to pattern hair loss generally outweigh the gender-specific differences.

Okay, we’ve set down a reasonable foundation for the problem. Now what is there to be done? Let’s start by touching on the options that honestly just don’t work and then we’ll get into therapies that do. The first thing that doesn’t work is also usually the first thing that women try, i.e. “thickening” the hair. Using thickening sprays, gels, mists etc. on thinning hair is a bit like putting makeup on a corpse. Eventually, the jig is up. In hair loss affected women, eventually the hair thins to a point where no amount of flocking spray will be able to disguise what’s happening. This is because the visible hair above the scalp also happens to be the non-living part of the system. That’s why you don’t scream bloody murder when your stylist takes a scissor to your hair. It’s also why plumping up the hair shaft with thickening shampoos and volumizing hair spray ends up addressing precisely the wrong end of the problem. It is the hair follicle, buried several millimeters below the skin surface, where we need to focus attention.

Another thing that just doesn’t work is scalp massage, and/or variously, products designed to increase blood flow to the scalp. Pattern hair loss is not a function of compromised blood supply. So massaging the scalp or using products purported to “invigorate” the scalp do basically nothing but invigorate a disreputable hair company’s bank account. Next on our list of “things that just don’t work” are hair vitamins. Your hair isn’t starving. You aren’t missing trace elements or vitamin C. Your hair is being shut down by genetic and epigenetic factors that hair vitamins simply can’t fix.

By now, you’re probably saying to yourself, well then, if none of these things works, then I’m basically out of luck, right? Wrong. From a therapeutic standpoint, there has actually never been a time in human history with better options than today. For starters, just as there are male-indicated hair loss treatment drugs that are off limits for women, there are female-indicated hair growth treatment pharmaceuticals that are not appropriate for use by men. The first drug on the list is spironolactone.

Spironolactone (marketed under the trade names Aldactone, Novo-Spiroton, Aldactazide, Spiractin, Spirotone, Verospiron or Berlactone) is a diuretic and is used as an antiandrogen.

It is a synthetic 17-lactone drug that is a renal competitive aldosterone antagonist in a class of pharmaceuticals called potassium-sparing diuretics, used primarily to treat heart failure, ascites in patients with liver disease, low-renin hypertension, hypokalemia, secondary hyperaldosteronism (such as occurs with hepatic cirrhosis), and Conn’s syndrome (primary hyperaldosteronism). Due to its antiandrogen effect, it can also be used to treat hirsutism, and it is a common component in hormone therapy for male-to-female transsexual and transgender people. Interestingly, it is also used for treating hair loss and acne in women, and has been used off label as a topical medication for treatment of male baldness. Spironolactone is commonly used to treat symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) such as excess facial hair and acne. It can also cause gynecomastia in males and should never be given with potassium supplementation for fear of the development of hyperkalemia.

The next female hair loss drug is flutamide. Flutamide is an oral nonsteroidal antiandrogen drug primarily used to treat prostate cancer. It competes with testosterone and its powerful metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) for binding to androgen receptors in the prostate gland. By doing so, it prevents them from stimulating the prostate cancer cells to grow. Flutamide has been largely replaced as a cancer drug by bicalutamide, due to a better side-effect profile. Flutamide may also be used to treat excess androgen levels in women, and it is here that the drug has also been used to treat female hair loss. It is marketed by Schering-Plough under the brand name Eulexin, also known as Flutamin. Like spironolactone, flutamide has the potential to cause feminizing side effects in men such as gynecomastia, and so this is a hair loss treatment drug that is generally useful only for hair challenged women.

Drugs are great. Thank goodness for drugs. Surely, the greatest achievement of the Twentieth Century was the creation of miracle drugs, such as streptomycin and penicillin. But drugs also come with common but sometimes highly significant negative side effects. Interestingly, it is also a fact that more than 50% of the pharmaceutical drugs in worldwide use today were originally derived from natural substances, either all or in part. For instance one of the earliest TB drugs was extracted from a bacillus found in cranberry bogs. Mother nature has been busy creating biochemically active molecules for many millions of years. Human beings have been at it for a somewhat shorter period of time.

The elegance of natural phytochemicals both staggers and ignites the imagination. And while natural medicine has been in use for thousands of years, it is only recently that evidence-based scientific analysis has been applied to validate these ‘nutraceuticals’ as such substances are sometimes called. A new field is emerging where sophisticated tools of molecular biology and protein chemistry are being harnessed to test, concentrate, and generally improve naturally-derived compounds, all without turning them into synthetic drugs.

Marathon Running Tips – The 10 X 800 Workout

One of the most critical aspects of a successful marathon is running at the correct pace. Start too fast, then you hit the wall and will be lucky to finish. Start too slow, then you might see the finish line, but will always be left wondering how much better race you could have run. So where is the happy medium, that elusive perfect pace?

The 10 x 800 Workout

One of the best marathon running tips I know is the 10 x 800 training workout. You can use this method to evaluate your overall running fitness and determine the optimum marathon pace for you to run at. Try this workout, and you will soon discover just how good you can be.

Let’s say that you think you can run a 3:45 marathon. What you do is try running 800 meters on the track at at 3:45 (3 minute 45 second) pace. Then rest and recover for an equal amount of time ( 3m 45s). Repeat this run-rest interval nine more times for a total of ten cycles. It’s very simple!

If your goal is a 4 hour marathon, then pace your 800m repeats at 4:00 and rest for 4 minutes in between. The same formula works just as well for a 2:30 marathon or a 4:27 marathon. See how easy it is?

Determine Your Workout Pace

If you’re not sure what is the right pace to start at, then just take your best guess and start there. If you can’t keep up the same pace for all ten intervals, then you have to slow down and try again. If you have energy to spare after repeat number ten, then next time pick up the pace by 10 seconds or so.

Experiment until you arrive at the best pace that you can maintain consistently for all ten intervals. That’s your new marathon pace! Keep doing your workouts at that pace, right up until about two weeks before you run your marathon. Then you can run with confidence, knowing that you won’t hit the wall, or finish only half as well as you could.

Training For Other Distances

Thanks to some crazy mathematical quirk, this pace training technique works for the marathon, but don’t try to use it to determine your race pace for the 5k. It doesn’t work that way! However, you can still use the 10 x 800 workout to do your base training for other distances, because it’s a fantastic workout for any distance race.

How can you utilize the acne-fighting property of Cayenne pepper? The simplest method is to increase the use of chili peppers in your meals. Herbalists recommend using pepper powder rather than capsules. This is because your stomach prepares to receive the pepper the moment the powder touches your tongue, whereas if you swallow a capsule form, your stomach senses the pepper only a few minutes after the gelatin melts in the stomach; hence, your stomach is caught unawares and you cannot get the benefits of consuming pepper. Alternatively, you may crush the pepper and apply it on your skin. You may also find acne sprays containing capsaicin as an active ingredient, in addition to green tea, cucumber and other ingredients. However, its use in acne treatment is not backed by scientific study. It may cause a stinging or burning sensation or irritate your skin. And, make sure that you’re not allergic to peppers. So, its best to get the opinion of a naturopathy specialist or dermatologist to assess you skin and recommend the right method.

Diabetic Diet: How Lemon and Lemon Water Can Help Cure Diabetes

I started buying fresh lemons by the bag after I found out how they can help cure diabetes. They are quite literally a miracle from Mother Nature! I have always loved fresh lemon but now I make an extra effort to eat lots of them. In fact, I believe lemons should be an important staple in every diabetic diet.

Lemon Lowers the Glycemic Index of Other Foods

Research has shown that lemon lowers the glycemic index of any food it is added to. And… we are not talking a few points here. The drop is very significant! To benefit from this, all you have to do is add a little squeeze of fresh lemon over your food. Almost like waving a magic wand, this will instantly lower the glycemic index of your meal. Best of all, lemon is such an excellent flavor enhancer, it makes many foods taste better too. I often add a squeeze of fresh lemon to a hot bowl of soup (yum!), casseroles, stove top goulashes, almost any kind of salad (including salads containing fruit), and sauteed vegetables (especially greens!). Anything with chicken or fish of course tastes especially good with lemon. Please note that it is best to add the fresh lemon right before you eat the food. If you cook it in soup, for example, it can become a little bitter and the health benefits won’t be quite as great.

Have A Glass of Lemon Water First Thing In the Morning

A glass of lemon water is the perfect way for a diabetic to start the day. Most people start their day with coffee (very acidic) and food that shift the pH of the body toward the acid side. However, if you shift the pH back toward the alkaline side, you will notice your blood sugar will go down. Moreover, your cell membranes will become more sensitive to insulin – i.e. you will be LESS insulin resistant. In fact, this will actually aid your body in repairing those damaged cell membranes.

Although lemons contain a weak acid, when they are metabolized by the body they have an alkalizing effect. If fact, they are the strongest alkalizing food you can eat! This is why adding lemon to your diet can go a long way toward restoring the pH of your body to the alkaline side where it should be. It has been found that most diabetics have a very acidic body pH (as have cancer patients). Bringing back to the alkaline side will go a long way toward helping to cure your diabetes.

Making lemon water is very easy. Just squeeze the juice from a half lemon (or a full lemon if you are a larger person) into a glass of water, swirl it around a little, and drink it up. Do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach before you have your coffee or breakfast.

Lemons Have TWICE the Vitamin C As Oranges

This was a fact that surprised me as you always hear that orange juice is so loaded with vitamin C. Well, the orange’s citrus cousin has it beat with twice the vitamin C. Most people don’t realize but vitamin C is an extremely powerful antioxidant. It is important to note that vitamin taken in the form of food is MUCH better absorbed by the body than vitamin C taken in the form of a pill!

Vitamin C is at least part of the reason lemons interact with the cell membrane and make it less insulin resistant. However, vitamin C also have other very important benefits to the diabetic as well. For example, it increases the production of collagen which strengthens blood vessels. This is key since many diabetics have problems with circulation and arterial damage.

Aids In Repairing Digestion

Most diabetics have impaired digestive enzymes and lowered acidity in the stomach. This means that they don’t always reap the full benefit from the nutritious food they eat. Lemon goes a long way toward curing this problem as well.

Do You Have These Panic Attack Symptoms?

A panic attack is a one of those things that literally grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. A sufferer can virtually find himself or herself running around in circles trying to “escape” the feeling of dread. However, that’s the extreme case. What about those times when you’re quite not sure what it is you’re suffering from? Not all panic symptoms hit you over the head with a sledge hammer.

So the question is, how can you tell if you’re having a panic? If you’re having any of the following symptoms, you just might be. One of the most common symptoms of a panic is a racing heart. It can almost feel like it’s trying to jump out of your body. If you put your hand to your chest, you can feel it pounding.

Another common symptom of panic attacks is feeling weak or dizzy. You may lose your balance or feel like you’re going to pass out. Of course these symptoms can also be caused by high blood pressure or even low blood sugar. That’s why it’s important to make note of all your symptoms and not just one or two.

You may also feel a tingling or numbing sensation in the fingers. However, and most people don’t know this, sinus problems can also cause the same sensation. If you’re prone to sinus problems or have allergies (see your allergist) that tingling sensation doesn’t have to be caused by panic.

A common symptom is a feeling of dread or death. At times this can almost feel like a premonition. I’m not suggesting that people having panic attacks can actually predict the future (that’s a topic for another time) but in their minds, the person having the attack is sure that something terrible is going to happen.

In addition to the above, you may also feel sweaty or might be having chills. Of course this could also be caused by having the flue or a severe cold. Again, you need to look at all the symptoms in order to make a proper self diagnosis.

A serious symptom is one of chest pains. The reason this is serious is because what may appear to be a panic attack could very well be the onset of a heart episode. If you are having chest pains, don’t guess. See a doctor immediately, especially if the pains worsen.

You may also have trouble breathing or feel like you are losing control of yourself. That sense of loss of control is usually when the panic attack begins to worsen. If you are having several of the above symptoms, it is quite possible that you’re having a panic attack. Once you’ve determined that much, the question is…what next?
